Street: Beavertail hut on the Rideau Canal Skate-Way

Beavertail hut on the Rideau Canal (January 24, 2015)

I’ve been in a number of discussions with those who would take issue with labeling this image as “street photography” because of the lack of a “street” and/or a distinctly urban environment within the image. I use a definition that fits within that found on Wikipedia.

Street photography is photography that features the human condition within public places and does not necessitate the presence of a street or even the urban environment. The subject of the photograph might be absent of people and can be an object or environment where the image projects a decidedly human character in facsimile or aesthetic.

Next up, what did Robert Capa really mean when he said

If your pictures aren’t good enough, you aren’t close enough.
