Light Collects

light collects

The federal weather service issued a severe thunderstorm warning this evening so I was set up on the balcony to try and capture the lightning – the storm passed us by but it seemed a waste to have the camera all ready and not click the shutter at least once, so: 30 second exposure @ f16 / ISO 400 / 10mm.

I think that one of the neatest things I’ve learned about my camera is that, as far as the sensor is concerned, “light collects“. As long as you can hold your camera steady enough, with the shutter open for long enough, you can take pictures in the dead of night with whatever natural light is there. The star effect around the light at the centre of the image is by design, created by using a small aperture.
