Ship Watching: The Algoma Transport

My first ship of the season

The Algoma Transport (according to the InterWebs) is a 730 foot freighter powered by twin 8 cylinder engines that can generate almost 10,000 horsepower. She is also equipped with a 1,000 horsepower bow thruster.

She began life in 1979 as the “Canadian Transport” in 1979 at the Port Weller Docks and was renamed in 2011 when acquired by Algoma Central.

Images shot May 26, 2012 on the St. Lawrence River from the Brockville (Ontario) shoreline.
